We just got a new blu-ray collection and our S won't play any of the discs in the collection. They are brand new out of the box. The blu-ray player will play all of our older blu-rays and DVDs just not this new set. Our friend has the exact same model blu-ray player and the discs play on their player.
Both players are on software version We already tried "resetting" it by holding the power, play and stop button at the same time, as well as unplugging the player for 1 minute. Neither of these things worked. What gives?? I would also like to note that a quick Google search reveals this is a widespread issue across a variety of Sony's blu-ray players.
If we end up having to buy a new blu-ray player because of this I think I will be avoiding Sony blu-ray players from now on. Hi katrinaisabelle, Welcome and thank you for considering Sony Community! This firmware has made things much worse for me, it is an utter disappointment. Note that all my DVDs still play very well, though. I tried everything - Help! I knew someone with the same exact player so I brought the disc to their house and it played fine, so we checked which firmware update it was on and both our machines had the same version!
I didn't update my machine but I don't recall which version it was on but I can go look for you if you are dying to know So as a "last ditch" effort before buying a new player, I tried a disc cleaner. Still no dice. Here's what did it.
