They enjoy putting things together. Combining technical knowledge involving structural requirements, materials and products with aesthetic vision, interior designers work with clients and other design professionals to develop design solutions that are safe, functional, attractive and meet the needs of the people using the space. Successful interior designers must possess strong communication skills and be comfortable in meeting with many different types of people, as well as being attentive listeners.

Interior designers must have excellent time- and project-management skills, and must understand business planning. They need to know how to create informative and persuasive proposals and maintain good client relationships. Graduates of the Master of Interior Design program will be qualified to secure positions within interior design and architectural firms, academic institutions, governmental and non-governmental agencies. The application process begins with an online application to the Graduate School. Supplemental materials except official transcripts are to be submitted online through the application process. Applicants are typically notified in late March and April, but the admissions process can extend into May and June.

Request Information Apply. Why study Interior Design? Admission Requirements A CIDA-accredited baccalaureate degree in interior design from a recognized college or university. Students may also choose to earn a certificate, a specialization, or pursue a concurrent graduate degree in Architecture.

Students in this program are placed in Interior Design topical studios and coursework depending on transfer analysis. Within this framework, track II students can customize their experience through studio choices offered each term or by enrolling in a wide variety of advanced electives, special studies, study abroad and off-campus experiences. In addition to the general Division of Graduate Studies requirements as listed in the UO Catalog , track II students must fulfill the same professional curriculum requirements of the track I program, but are admitted with advanced standing in studio and subject-area courses.
