Almost identical face and crown graphics. I thought here is yet another driver that has been renamed and rebranded. I was wrong. The difference is in the sole and the hosel. The adjustability is a nice touch and it's good to see Ping join in with this feature. You can tell that Ping were cautious of affecting the weight and feel of the club, so the hosel is very small and the adjustability is minimal. Would love to adjust it more than 0. The feel and sound is where it makes it mark.
Compared to the i20, the Ping Anser seems more stable and heavier through impact. This may be due to the new weight configuration on the sole. The sole or footprint is larger, moving more weight back in the head, and you can feel the difference through impact. I liked the i20, but I really like the Anser. The shaft options make this a must-try for any low handicap player looking for a new driver. If this is Ping just dipping their toe into the pool of adjustability, I cannot wait to see what comes next.

Skip to content. Review: Ping Anser Driver. Ping has been leading the industry in custom fitting for years. They offer some of the easiest and best custom fitting options in the industry. They have always wanted their customers to buy what fits them, not just clubs off the rack.
I think that all golfers should get fit for their clubs too, everyone has a different swing. But what happens when you go in for a fitting and after a few weeks with a club your swing changes slightly, it would be nice to be able to alter the club to fit the new swing.
Ping finally jumped into the adjustable driver game with the Anser driver. It fits very nicely with their push to be custom fit, yet allows the owner to tweak the club as needed down the road. Those days are clearly over as the Anser once again proves that PING is more than capable of producing a serious driver that looks the part. The matte black finish is the same. Although PING lists the i20 as the more traditional of the pair, apart from a very subtle bump out along that curve, the Anser, to my eyes anyway, is actually the more traditional looking whatever that means anymore of the two.
The weight is not user replaceable, at least not by any method supported by PING. Just as they did with the i20, our testers loved the matte finish, as well as the previously mentioned traditional shape.
My opinion is that Anser and i20 drivers are virtually identical where sound and feel are concerned. Guys moving over from G series drivers are going to lose a degree of consistency, but will pick up loads of actual feedback. It really boils down to personal preference. Our testers appear to be coming around to the former as they actually rated the Anser slightly higher in this category than the i Almost certainly as the simple result of liking it more than the others, our testers actually rated the Anser as the most forgiving of the 3.
Instead PING elected to keep things amazingly simply. There are no movable weights, no adjustable sole technology, and no over-abundance of settings. On the contrary, PING feels that. They point out that the. The suggestion is that adjustability should not be used as a replacement for proper fitting. The numbers basically speak for themselves, and they say that the PING Anser is a damn fine driver that blends distance, forgiveness, and good looks into a tight little package capable of keeping even the more errant among us well placed in the fairway.
From our low speed senior tester, to our higher swing speed player, to the guys in between, with a reasonably good shaft fit from the stock selections no less , the Anser proved capable of producing excellent numbers across the board. Pretty great post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to mention that I have really enjoyed surfing around your weblog posts.
It still seems like Ping is resisting adjustability by adding so little of it. I 2nd swinged, swung? I picked up 15 to 20 yards carry easily, and found a lot more fairways! The feel on this driver, the feedback, both are remarkable compared to my last 3 drivers r9 hotmelt, r11 and the RBZ. Well done Ping. Add another brand loyalist to the list. I will be with you for years to come! Also I hit the new Anser irons at 2nd Swing, one word, butter.
Sold work as usual. Not sure I get the point of such limited adjustability. At that point why not just make the shafts replaceable and not worry about 1. Seems odd to me. Awesome review.
