Windows vista disable ipv6

My point is that most western companies don't benefit of supporting IPv6 at the moment. I am quite sure that those organizations who use IPv6 now will make certain that they can reach IPv4 networks for a very long time.

I also strongly disagree with your arguments concerning IPv6 security. It is an additional service. Therefore it certainly enlarges your network's attack surface. Administrators are busy people. It doesn't make sense to invest time in configuring and securing IPv6 properly if your employer doesn't benefit from it right now.

Hi Guys I have migrated my home domain from Server03 with Exchange 03 to Server08 with Exchange 07 and forgot how critical IPv6 really is for Exchange Upon boot Event Viewer was full of major AD errors. Googling the errors pointed to major issues with A. I tried running ADPrep the Exchange 07 equivalent with no change. I eventually stumbled on a comment that mentioned IPv6 needed for Exchange Terry, where did you read this?

I doubt somehow that Exchange requires IPv6. Even Microsoft writes : "If you are not using IPv6 in the Exchange environment, we recommend that you disable it. If so, then you have to restart the DNS Server service. So obviously in this scenario it died horribly. Here is the link I saw that reminded me. I haven't read in detail. Based on the arguments presented no default installation of IPv6, our firewall allows for the "control" of IPv6 tunnels , would it be prudent to disable IPv6 on the Vista clients?

Ronin, if you are unsure if you have services that require IPv6, you could just disable it on one machine and see whether everything still works. The issue with Exchange Server and unchecked IPv6 is known. If you don't want to use the new protocol, you have to use the registry to disable it leache IPv6 checked. I dispute IPv6 being required for exchange I run an exchange environment for a multi-million dollar company and I have IPv6 disabled on every exchange server we run.

Exchange can also be installed on Windows , and IPv6 isn't even installed on that OS by default. In fact, until SP1 for exchange , you HAD to install it in a x64 server as wasn't supported yet.

That shoots down the IPv6 requirement for that app. Also i don't really care if China doesn't have enough IPv4 addresses. IPv6 is not required for exchange nor We have a network running only IPv4 and all IPv6 is off due to our high level of security and everything works perfectly.

For me it also broke my finger print scanner. Only solution so far is to remove the update. Leos Marek posted an update 5 hours, 34 minutes ago. Brandon Lee wrote a new post, Redirect user profile folders documents, pictures, etc. For a long time, roaming profiles and folder redirection were the standard means under Windows for making user files available on different devices. Now that more and more users work on the road or at home rather than in the office, this technique is becoming increasingly obsolete. An alternative to such environments is to redirect profile folders to OneDrive.

For other network adapter or connection, users have to repeat the steps to disable IPv6. The registry settings also allow users to selectively disable components and configure behaviors for IPv6 in Windows Vista. Note that the name must be exactly as shown, including capitalization. DisabledComponents is set to 0 by default. It's easier to punch in a Now is a good time to get your v6 house in order instead of it becoming a crisis to do it later when forced to.

I definitely use to be a proponent of disabling IPv6 where it's not being used but it is now integrated in many ways to windows 10 OS and sometimes even the newer versions of Windows server. It appears as newer OS builds get released, IPv6 is used more and more.

So, if you have Microsoft environment, I would recommend keeping IPv6 enabled at this point. Turning it off my not have any benefit, but it could conceivably cause unintended consequences that could potentially go unnoticed. I agree with those that say turning it off is not likely going to solve any issue you are having. If you had voiced that you had a security concern with leaving it on then that might be a different story. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Okay here goes. I read nearly 10 years ago that we were rapidly running out of IPv4 addresses, and unless we did something within the next few years, we would not be able to register domains. Yet here we are. Through better management of the IPv4 address pool, we are NOT at some kind of crisis tipping point, our beach cities are not under water because of global warming, killer bees have not driven us off the continent, and the governments of the world still will not admit they are in league with aliens to provide a sustainable source of human brain tissue as a food source!
